Divisional Requirements: History and Social Sciences

Each major is required to fulfill divisional distribution requirements by completing two of the following in addition to their home department requirements:

  1. ANTH 211 and either ANTH 201 or one additional upper-division anthropology course.
  2. Any two one-unit Reed College economics courses, or the equivalent.
  3. Any two one-unit Reed College history courses, or the equivalent.
  4. SOC 211 and one other sociology course.
  5. One introductory political science course (POL 220 , POL 230 , POL 240 , POL 260 , or POL 280 ) and any other course in political science, but no more than one unit from 200-, 300-, or 400-level political theory (POL 280 , POL 382 , POL 383 , POL 385 , POL 390 , POL 392 , POL 397 , POL 403 , POL 405 , POL 409 ).

Note that for purposes of meeting HSS divisional requirements in anthropology, political science, or sociology, students must include the introductory course (ANTH 211 ; POL 220 , POL 240 , POL 260 , or POL 280 ; or SOC 211 ) as one of the required two units.
