Integrity and Ethics in Public Service and Amongst Public Servants: An Introduction
The chapters in this section address one of the primary challenges of our age: the need to restore public confidence in institutions and the role of integrity and ethics in meeting that challenge. Drawing on contributions from a range of perspectives, the chapters make an important contribution to our understanding of the state and nature of integrity and ethics in public services and among public servants in a range of different contexts around the world. The chapters also provide important insights into the potential and limits of public servants acting to promote integrity and uphold ethical conduct. The introduction to this section situates the debates about integrity and ethics in its contemporary context, identifies the challenges posed to public servants, and offers suggestions for reform and renewal of practice drawing on the eight chapters that comprise the section.
